Petition for Equal Gun Rights
Petition To:
The United States Congress
The President of the United States
The United States Supreme Court
Whereas, the Bill of Rights added further declaratory and restrictive clauses to the U.S. Constitution in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse powers; and
Whereas, the authors of the first ten amendments included the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights because they understood this lesson of history and consequently believed as a matter of fact that a well-armed citizenry is both a necessary condition of liberty and the only effective deterrent against tyranny; and
Whereas, the Second Amendment was and remains an unambiguous and unrestricted, sweeping guarantee for all Americans regardless of race, religion or class the right to own and bear arms and use them in their own self defense; now
Whereas, U.S. history demonstrates convincingly that restrictive gun control laws targeted minority-groups, specifically African Americans, with the intent rob them of their natural right to self defense in order to aid those who would oppress or enslave them; and
Whereas, New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago and other major cities have both a majority population of minority citizens AND the most restrictive gun control laws in America; and
Whereas, The Second Amendment Foundation makes no judgment whether lawmakers and Mayors of New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago have racist intent with the gun control laws on the books and those being proposed, the result is the same – Their citizens of which are majority minority do not have the same right to keep and bear arms as their suburban countrymen.
Whereas, George Mason, the Father of the Bill of Rights, summed it up best when he said, “To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them;” and
Therefore, We the Undersigned petition the United States Government to cease and desist all efforts to disarm or short-arm the American people by limiting and disparaging the Second Amendment or rendering it a dead letter through federal, state or local legislation, interpretation and regulation and demand the restoration of rights to those citizens disarmed by restrictive gun control laws in the cities of New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and all other such municipalities.
